Hungry Rants is a food and travel blog for people who plan their holidays around meals and their meals around holidays. From hole-in-the-wall eateries and street food stalls to the dishes worth flying for, we share honest reviews, foodie finds and travel stories from Australia and beyond.
Our story
Hungry Rants started the way most good meals do — with an argument. A debate over the best laksa in the food court, a rant about an overpriced breakfast, a rave about a six-dollar dumpling that deserved a medal. Somewhere between those conversations, this blog was born: a place to share the meals that wow us and warn you about the ones that don’t.
Since then we’ve eaten our way through night markets, bakery counters, beachside fish and chip shops and far-flung street food stalls — and brought it all back here, one honest rant at a time.
What you’ll find here
- Honest food reviews — the great, the good and the gloriously bad, written after a real visit with our own money on the table.
- Travel stories — destination guides and food-focused itineraries from Australia and around the world.
- Recipes and kitchen experiments — the dishes we hunt down on our travels and then work out how to make at home, from Greek classics to a proper Italian sugo.
- Food guides and 101s — practical explainers, from pickling vegetables to choosing a tomato press.
How we review
Every review on Hungry Rants reflects a genuine visit or experience. We pay our own way unless a post clearly discloses otherwise, and no one can buy a good rap — if we recommend it, it’s because we genuinely think it’s worth your appetite. When something misses the mark, we’ll tell you why, with a bit of humour and no grudges.
Why rants?
Because food is emotional! The best meals deserve loud, joyful praise and the disappointing ones deserve a gentle rant. We take food seriously; ourselves, less so.
